"Up&Up" By Coldplay

So last week, in our daily session, a coursemate showed an interesting video that combines music and vfx from a Major Lazer song called "Light it up". The video mostly consists in a lot of CGI characters that were just dancing, but they were not humans, actually they were made up of random stuff, for example, sand, or some cables or even just full of hair. After this, I was inspired to go and look in the music industry about a good video that used VFX and I came up with a Coldplay song called, "Up&Up". This music video seems very interesting to me because, of course it has vfx but in a way that combines two different things in life, for example swimming but in sky, or some fish swimming in the air. The video included a lot of things like this and it was pretty cool because the fact that someone is using a mountain as a sofa, or a volcano is making popcorns.

The video won the "MTV Video Music Award for Best Visual Effects" and on it's first day it was viewed over three million times.

The concept of the video is using perspective and surreal images to create kind of a paradox between two common things. For example synchronized swimming inside of a tea cup.

The VFX were made by Vania Heymann and Gloria FX.

I think some of the stuff showed in the video are kind of satisfying to watch and others not so much. For example, having a building pop out of a cereal bowl kinds of reminded me of virtual reality. But in the other hand stuff like a baby crawling in a plane's wing was not very satisfying at all. The video also made some political points, for example when they showed a wall diving the beach from the sea, does it reminds you of someone?

I also think it was impressive the fact that they didn't or at least it seems that they didn't use a HD videos in many of the shots, it looked as if they were videos from 10, 15 years ago.

I found a behind the scenes of how they made the video and they used a lot of green screen, tracking.
