"The Birds" by Alfred Hitchcock

Yesterday as part of our weekly film club we watch a movie from the great Alfred Hitchcock named "The Birds". It is a very old movie, it was released on 1963 and it has a lot of visual effects that right now they are not as impressive as today's movies but if we go back 50 years ago those were very impressive vfx. For example they started the use of the blue screen instead of the green screen. The idea behind the blue/green screen is basically the same but the fact that they started using a new method was extraordinary. Also the use of rotoscoping in the movie was clearly seen. In the part where there are birds flying and you can see the town.

This movie used a lot of blue screen as mentioned before, for example in the part where Ms. Daniels is in the boat, all the landscape is made by using blue screen.

One of the things I disliked of the movie is the pace. I think is a very slow movie compare to the movies nowadays. Also I felt like each scene was very long, they didn't use a lot of cuts between people chatting, or even thought to change from one place to another. For example there was a lot of character tracking. By this I mean the camera following a specific character during a scene.

There pretty good things about this movie. The last scene where the car just goes aways in the middle of all the birds, that was a very complex scene. They had to shoot or add all the birds and then make the car go a certain way so it looked naturally.

I would give this movie a 6 because honestly I did enjoy the beginning of the movie but getting to the end was the boring part. Also I think there should be an ending to the movie because they one it has is a very open ending and I think they left a lot of unanswered questions.
