Trompe L'oeil

Can you guess which one is real?

What is Trompe L'oeil? translated from French "to fool, mislead, or trick the eye", is one of the first beginnings of VFX (Visual Effects). This was a type of painting that consisted on fooling the eye. For example, the first artist to practice this was Zeuxis, he painted such realistic grapes, birds were often attracted to it.

Basically, Trompe L'oeil are paintings that fool your eye into believing something is not real. In images above, our task was to add a contemporary object to an Old Trompe L'oeil. The picture on the left is the original art piece by J.G. Linneman, and the one on the right is my work after adding 6 contemporary objects. This work was not too hard it was more about trying to fit the contemporary object smoothly. We used a technique to match the colour of the original picture and add it to the objects. This can be made by finding the darkest, medium and lightest tone of the picture.
