Pen Tool

On Tuesday we learn and improve our techniques on the pen tool. In the image above you can see the original picture of a dolphin swimming in the ocean, with the pen tool we had to cut out the image. There was an interesting fact I learn about the pen tool. As you may know, Photoshop works with pixels, while Illustrator works with a mathematical equation, this means that when we use the pen tool we can print it on A6 or A1 size and it will still remain with the same quality. Our tutor David Simpson gave us some tricks to use and get better results. Normally when doing a curve with the pen tool is our instinct to star doing it at the beginning of the curve or at the top of the curve, sometimes it might get the work was done but for a better result every time is better to star with the sides. David taught us that a curve is made with two points. So instead of trying to make the curve with a point on the top, I made two points, one in each side and it gives me really smooth curves. One of the challenges I faced, was when getting in a really small corner. People will normally just draw like a sharp edge in the corner but it might be noticeable in some cases. What I did was make a small curve so the edge looks very smooth. Personally, I think it takes to much time but the results are almost perfects. First I had to make the shape with the pen tool and create 2 points per curve so, at the beginning, it looks like a very straight line shape with no curves but then with the convert point tool I am able to change the lines into curves and with two points create very precise curves. This technique is more exact rather than the magic wand and it can give you almost perfect results.
