Background Removal

The technique used in this exercise is removing background by using the RGB Channels. This consists of creating a matte of the woman and try to remove the white background. This method is used in pictures like this one where the subject in the picture has tiny details that might be almost impossible to keep if we try to remove the background by using the magic wand. The RGB channels was a new technique for me that it makes my life easier when talking about removing a background. Before knowing this procedure my work in photoshop was a huge pain in the ass, I was always trying to get the details and only by using the magic wand when it would have been easier just by using a matte with the RGB channels. After removing the original background of the picture, I just placed the woman in the background of the buildings as shown above. Also, there are some different techniques if the woman is missing some hair details or needs some parts of the hair are not quite right you can create a copy of the matte and grab the colour of the hair that most stands out, in this case brown, and paint the matte. Next, is necessary to create a clipping mask on top of the matte and with the brush just slightly paint on top of the areas that need more detail. This effect will create a stronger matte and highlight those details in the hair. Another effect I used in this image was cutting out pieces of the hair and putting them where there is less detail and by using blendings I was able to adapt the hair correctly.

With this techniques, I am able to cut out really difficult images and all of their details and paste it in another background, looking really natural.
